OLD PARISH VOTES TO JOIN THE NATIONAL RELIGIOUS CAMPAIGN AGAINST TORTURE
At a special congregational meeting on Sunday, July 19, Old Parish voted
unanimously to join The National Religious Campaign against Torture (NRCAT),
an interfaith, interdenominational coalition. Membership requires agreement with
the following Statement of Conscience:
Torture violates the basic dignity of the human person that all religions, in
their highest ideals, hold dear. It degrades everyone involved – Policy-makers,
perpetrators and victims. It contradicts our nation’s most cherished ideals.
Any policies that permit torture and inhumane treatment are shocking and
morally intolerable.
The Mission Committee was charged with determining a suitable financial
contribution to NRCAT, and John Wightman volunteered to serve on the NRCAT
Participating Members Council.
